PACKERS FIELD UPDATE - April 2006

The City Academy recently organised a meeting about community use of Packer's Field. At that meeting a group of local people presented a report outlining how 92% of residents who we asked signed a petition asking for free, open access and dual use between schools and the community of Packer's field. It also asked for genuine consultation on community use. We also presented ideas for what was felt should be in a community use agreement.

At the meeting many opinions and views were expressed. At the end of the meeting it was agreed that a small group of people on both sides of the 'argument' would try and produce a draft agreement before another public meeting is held in the near future. If you wish to be involved in this or have ideas to put forward please contact us via the website/e-mail.

AT THE MEETING THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WAS CONFIRMED BY THE CITY ACADEMY:

  • THERE WILL BE A HIGH SECURITY FENCE ALL AROUND THE FIELD;

  • THEY WILL BUILD A NEW ENTRANCE OFF WHITEHALL ROAD/JOHNSONS LANE;

  • CHANGING ROOMS WILL BE CONSTRUCTED;

  • NO DOGS WILL BE ALLOWED ON THE FIELD;

  • A CAR PARK FOR 50 CARS AND COACHES WILL BE BUILT;

  • THEY WILL REMOVE GRASS AND REPLACE IT WITH A SYNTHETIC RUNNING TRACK & FLOODLIGHTS (Planned for the 2nd Phase of development);

  • THAT THE SITE IS BEING LEASED TO THE ACADEMY FOR FREE.
